Experience Hong Kong this summer in a unique educational environment with university students from throughout Asia and the United States. For three weeks, students will attend classes, listen to prominent speakers, and attend special events designed to engage them in an educational, cultural and social exchange. This combination of activities leads to an exploration of challenging ideas and life-long relationships that cannot be gained elsewhere.

The Institute is intended for the serious and energetic student who is willing to be challenged by stimulating ideas and cultural exchange. Students from a wide range of nationalities have an opportunity to interact, learn and share their experiences in ways that can benefit their educational and professional development.

Students will leave the Institute as members of a growing network of alumni of The Fund for American Studies living throughout the world. These alumni form a significant network of young leaders and professionals in academia, journalism, business, and government.

Why should you visit HONG KONG?

Officially known as the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, this is a dependency of the People's Republic of China. It was formerly under the United Kingdom until 1997, when its sovereignty was transferred to China.

With an enormous population of around 7 million people, it is among the most densely populated areas anywhere in the world. It is located on the Pearl River Delta, on the Chinese south coast. It is bordered majorly by the South China Sea.

Hong Kong is one of the most renowned and famous financial capitals of the world. It also houses numerous business houses and is a cultural hub in this part of the world. It is a metropolitan city where a m?lange of cultures, ideas, various ethnicities, cuisine, music, traditions and cinema occur. The local population is predominantly Chinese, but there are indeed a significant number of expatriates who form the minority.

Being situated just south of the Tropic of Cancer, Hong Kong has a subtropical climate. It is also a bit humid at times. The terrain is mostly hilly and mountainous, with just a quarter of the entire land area developed. The other portion, almost 40% of it is reserved as country parks and nature reserves.
